A lot of press is now being released in preparation for Sofia Coppola's new movie, The Bling Ring. The story was inspired by the Vanity Fair interview by Nancy Jo Sales about a group of teens who went around breaking into celebrity homes and stealing their clothes, jewelry and whatever else they thought was cute. These "shopping" trips included visits to the homes of Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Meghan Fox, Audrina Patridge and Miranda Kerr.
Their thirst for being apart of that celebrity lifestyle is a problem we still face in our culture today. We don't see celebrities as people, but royalty. They are put on pedalstals and never have to deal with the same day to days as a normal law abiding citizen. So as twisted as it sounds, these teens couldn't see how stealing from people who have it all, so to speak, would be a problem.
I for one can't wait to see the movie, I am a huge Sofia Coppola fan. I love how this movie is both a comedy and a horror film because as crazy as the scenes are, they're real.
The Cut just posted this great interview with Stacey Battat, the costume designer for the film, where she discussing the evolving style of the teen bandits. Also if Paris Hilton's closet in the movie was an actual recreation and how fashion houses like Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Dolce & Gabbana loaned samples to the movie, check it out here.
Here's a sneak peak of the first time they make it into Paris's closet:
