This spring collection of Miu Miu really struck a chord with me. I have always been a big fan of the brand but something about this one in particular really had me thinking about the differences and similarities between it and Prada.
I liken Prada and Miu Miu to a sister relationship, and excuse the obvious pop culture reference, like Beyoncè and Solange Knowles. Beyoncè would be your Prada, very classic and put together. She gives you a fashion piece that works and makes you look twice but it’s never too off putting never too out of character. Then there’s Solange who comes in with personality. She will wear the mix patterns, the fringe dresses and skirts both on the stage and off, the bright colors, etc and make a statement that compliments Beyoncè's style but you still feel and see the difference.
The Prada Spring 14 collection was gorgeous but Miu Miu turned my head. I loved the homage to the Mod 60s, and puff dresses from the 80s paired with the familiarity of a young girls wardrobe. A stand out for me was the pussycat coat over a latex skirt, pastel blouse and lace up boots. All these different ideas but together to make one perfect look that excites and inspires, other examples are the parakeet dress with green stockings, the sequin fringe dresses, the platforms MaryJanes, the pastel fur coats, the boots with floral and suede and the chokers and bags worn by each model.
I feel Style.com said it best with calling the collection both Pretty and Perverse, the call for femininity with the nostalgia of a young girl’s wardrobe and bedroom, as the Palais d'Iéna was decorated with pussycat and parakeet wallpaper and different color flooring.
Miuccia Prada raised the bar a little higher.
