This past weekend I took a quick trip to Philadelphia for a friend's birthday party. Philly is such a beautiful city filled with history and art. During my time there my friend and I took a trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art to see the Patrick Kelly exhibition.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Kelly, he was an African American designer from Mississippi who had a passion for style and fashion. His motto was "Nothing is Impossible" and he proved that from raising the ranks in fashion and taking over not only the American audience but Paris as well. His designs were inspired women like Josephine Baker and designers like Coco Chanel and Elsa Schiaperelli (remember my excitement for Lacroix for Schiaperelli here).
Kelly was at the top of his game when he passed of AIDs in 1990 but his designs and influence live on in his work. Here are some of my favorite pieces.
This exhibition will be up until November 30, 2014 - check out more info here
Kelly was laid back and his uniform was normally overalls, bright sneakers and a hat.
One of my favorite pieces, inspired by Josephine Baker
Here are a few more highlights from my weekend getaway in Philly!!
Philly has some of the most beautiful murals I've ever seen, can you find me in this one? :)
Finally I climbed the Rocky steps, easy right? Umm no, especially when the sun is blazing on your back, but cue the music because I did it!!
